Gabby & Mark on Hillary Clinton’s New Plan for Reducing Gun Violence

October 5, 2015 – Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Navy combat veteran and NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, the Co-Founders of the gun violence prevention organization Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), issued the below statement following the release by presidential candidate Hillary Clinton of a comprehensive plan  for reducing gun violence in the United States:

”We applaud Hillary Clinton for laying out exactly what she would do if elected president to make our communities safer from gun violence. Commonsense steps like closing the loopholes in our laws that let dangerous people buy guns without a background check, keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and stalkers, and cracking down on the illegal gun trade would help reduce gun violence and save lives – all while respecting the Second Amendment rights of responsible gun owners.

”And while governing by executive action is no one’s first choice in making policy, the American people support closing the loopholes in our background check laws. In the face of Congress’ absolute refusal to do anything meaningful to reduce dangerous people’s access to guns,  we think all options should be on the table for any administration.

”Now, every single contender for the office of President of the United States should follow suit and release their plan for making our country safer from gun violence, so that voters can decide who best represents their views.
