October 19, 2017 — Giffords, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and retired NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, announced its endorsement today of Oregon Governor Kate Brown for re-election. As governor, Kate Brown has been a strong advocate for responsible gun violence prevention policies that have made Oregon safer.

“Last year, over 33,000 Americans were killed by a gun. Oregon has not been immune to this deadly crisis: somebody is killed with a gun in Oregon every 21 hours. In her first year in office, Governor Brown stood up to the gun lobby and signed a responsible measure that closed a loophole in Oregon law that allowed dangerous people to buy guns without a background check.
